Is 150 to 250 Watt seconds enough for a small home studio.?
I am considering purchasing storbes for a small home portrait studio. I have a great deal of constant lights I use for video work however I am not sure how the wattage of my constant lights is compared to watt seconds. I have found several studio kits of fair price that offer 150 up to 250 watt seconds. Is this a good amount of power? Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the good advice. I should have also asked for any affordable strobe options that are decent as well.
That is actually a pretty small amount of power for strobes, but it will work for you as long as your home studio does in fact remain SMALL. You will only be able to take photos of one person at a time, and even then will probably have to use a fairly large aperture such as 2.8 or 3.5.
The problem is that as time goes on most people who start out with small studios start to grow it, and want or need to photo larger groups of people. At that point, your low power lights will be insufficient. You then end up buying more powerful lights.
My advice to you is to buy some good quality, powerful lights in the first place. They will serve you now and in the future and save you money in the long run.
