I would like to do studio portraits and stills. Should I invest in studio lighting or studio flashes?
I am looking to make an investment into my hobby but I want to make the most versatile to invest in. I am looking for others opinions so that I have as much information as I can find before spending the big bucks. What are the benefits and drawbacks of each and what would you suggest?
If you mean continuous lighting vs flash only you can answer that. It depends on the way you work, flash is certainly cooler for your subjects.
Flashguns (strobes) have a lot of advantages, they are portable, work off batteries, the duration of the flash decreases when you turn them down so they freeze action, (studio flash do the opposite, can be less than 1/100th of a second) they are cheap if you buy manual ones like studio flash are.
