What is the best setup for a studio?
I take mosty outdoor portraits and have alot of requests for studio portraits, i would like to know the best way to set up my studio as far as lights, what i need to get started and the general layout for families, babies and children, and also maternity portraits, thanks!
And also “how long is a piece of string”.
There is no real set answer.
Minimum as far as I am concerned:
3 lights and stands
Backgrounds
tripods
cameras
props
The studio should be of a size where you can get full length shots of a minimum group of 4 people comfortably. This should be using a lens in the 75-105mm range on a 35mm camera (ff dslr).
There should be a changing area, toilet, office area and showing area.
Backgrounds should be white and a neutral grey at the minimum.
Props, should be posing stools, blocks, chair/stool and small couch again at a minimum.
if you are going to have kids there then obviously a selection of kids toys and props
That is the bare minimum that I would even consider using.
No doubt others will disagree but anything less than that and you will struggle imo.
