Studio Lighting Video

how do you use studio lights in videograghy?
what are the typical techniques used to get good lighting in the context of videos. i always see these great real looking music videos that look awesome but ive heard its all in the lighting not so much the saturation brightness and contrast. is that true? what kind of lights to buy? how they should be used? different ideas for lighting techniques looking for advice since i am becoming more involved in making videos i need good ideas on a limited budget yaknow shortcuts and the like to save money and not waste time any and all ideas apprecieated
If you want professional lihghting results find someone that has been to film or TV school. Basic is key, fill and backlight. Advanced would be 100’s of fresnos on overhead rigs, a few dozen spots or maybe some large chinesse lanterns of 5 or 10k.
To sum up your question would be like me saying I have a hammer now tell me the shortcuts to building a house. There are not shortcuts, study and learning are required. – also ask in camcorders not photography…..
