How important is it to be able to draw with the following gfx programs…?
I am interested in getting into the graphics industry.
I already know Photoshop pretty well but I want to take up something else…
So Flash comes to mind, so do the 3D programs like 3D Studio Max, Lightwave and Maya.
Also thinking about motion graphics with either Combustion or After Effects.
I have one fear about all this though. I can’t draw to save my life.
I’m guessing with Combustion and After Effects it doesn’t matter as it’s all about manipulating video footage, but I’m not at all sure about Flash and the 3D apps.
Please someone shed some light on this for me!

all these softwares are tools, people use them for all sorts of things. For example you don’t need to draw if you are a “technical director” preparing scripts or shaders in maya. However if you want to be a creative “artist” (even if you realize someone elses ideas) you should be able to be familiar with drawing and graphics design in general.
You should know what career path you want to approach: what do you want to do in 5 years? If it’s video editing, compositing or the technical side of 3d graphics, you don’t need to draw.
If it’s character modeling and animation, texturing, graphics desing for web etc., you better start to draw NOW.
