Does coming from a “smoke free studio” matter?
Frequently when I see used recording equipment listed for sale, the seller indicates that the equipment was only used in a smoke free studio. Does being in a smoking environment have a noticeable impact on recording equipment? If so, what types of equipment (mics, mixers, preamps, audio interfaces, etc.) are most impacted? What is the impact? decreased functioning? shorter lifespan?
Its a matter of filth. It’s hard to say where the filth from the tar and nicotine will end up but it’s never a good thing. The more expensive the equiptment is the better care of it you want to take and that is the reason for keeping it away from a nasty filthy environment.
