It is interesting to note the arrival of a new camera or the line Canon or Nikon digital SLR. There is always so much anticipation. It'sa bit like waiting for the announcement of Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Anyone interested knows why "their" favorite should win the prize.
For Canon and Nikon, the rivalry has been constant. And since the advent of the sub-$ 1000 DSLR, which has been even more intense. Camera manufacturer who can dominate the market with its latest launch. The original Canon EOS 300D and Nikon D40 are both very popular (and the D40 still selling well).
The great part about buying a new DSLR first is that you can not go wrong by choosing a Canon or Nikon. The reasons to make the jump from a compact point and shoot digital to a digital SLR can be one of several. Usually there is a progression on the experience of a photographer who moves from casual picture more complex and the need to take more control over the chamber outlet that is available on the P & S models. In fact, some digital compacts offer some additional control, like the Canon G-10, but the photographer not yet have the ability to change lenses.
This progression usually happens in a digital compact to a DSLR from entry level to a digital SLR professional level. Each of these cameras offer more control than before and, of course, increase the price tag too.
