How to make a home composition studio.?
I want to become a film scorer, but am not tech savvy! I need to know specifics! I already have a keyboard (Rolan Fantom X8). I need to know what other equipment i need, how to connect my keyboard to my laptop, which programs to use, and how to get these programs to recognize my keyboard. The program needs to be able to play a video while i score for it. CAN ANYONE HELP ME?!?!?!?!?
Sibelius 5 does a pretty decent job at composing for videos – not a bad price either – would def be my first choice!
Cubase VST is a great option for recording the music onto your computer – not too sure about any video capabilities though – not too bad a price either.
Pro Tools is unbeatable as far as recording goes, but you pay for it!
As far as connecting the keyboard goes, you just need a decent audio lead that plugs into the audio out socket on the keyboard and into the microphone/audio in socket on your laptop. It depends on the program you use, what soundcard you’ve got, what OS your running etc etc as to how you get your keyboard recognised. I’d get all the software/equip sorted first and then worry about connecting it all – maybe post a more specific question if you get stuck?
