Adding audio or video on your website is a definite plus in these days. Increased opportunities for generating additional revenue. Streaming audio / video generally has two purposes. A being of entertainment value, and the other, more practical and useful in our case, is the generation of income through the use of technology to display and promote their products.
Until recently, professional web designers were wary of adding multiple media streams to a website. But now, the spread of high-speed connections of broadband Internet has removed the barrier to the use of such additions. There is much to consider, so for now, we will deal with streaming audio, video and save for another article.
Audio files have different formats, most currently popular is the MP3 and MIDI. What is a MIDI and MP3, and what are the differences? I described some sound file formats below, together with their various attributes to help you decide which to use on your website.
MIDI is a type of music file that uses the built-in devices on the card computer sound, making the file size fairly light. However sound cards vary widely, so playing a MIDI file on two different computers with different sound cards can produce different results. Another problem is that MIDI files can sound a little like the ring tones of old cell phones. This could give your website a distinctly amateur. This should be avoided. You do not want to be labeled an amateur when you are selling something. Of course, the positive is that because of its small size, people dial will appreciate the speed of loading your site.
MP3 is an audio file that is high compression, achieving a smaller file size. People who use DSL 5MB probably download an MP3 file in less than a minute. Connections Dial normally take 3 to 5 minutes to download a single song play-time.
By their nature compressed sound files MP3 is not as good as your CD player. You also need to "loop" of these files make it play continuously while, for example, people browsing your site. Looping is not easy with MP3. A major drawback is that they require specific software to play MP3 files, and when someone enters a site that uses these files in your Real Player or Windows Media Player may open automatically to play, spoiling the effect.
In terms quality, the best sound file format is the WAV file. Using this format will give the studio-quality audio. But the indisputable problem with these files is size. Even with broadband connection, a browser will have a difficult time loading a web page using WAV for audio stream.
When attempts to incorporate audio streams on your website, familiarity with the flash files is an advantage. For continuous music playback, you need the file loop. Files WAV pass through the loop process without problems, but MP3 and MIDI files have to be associated with the flash files to achieve this.
However, you must decide exactly what you want to accomplish with your audio, and make your choice accordingly. Do not be afraid to experiment to get the result you're after. After all, as you can see, there are several ways to add background sound to your web pages, and you certainly will be glad you did.
