Pro Studio Lighting – what is best?
We are setting up a studio and have been researching different lighting options. On we’ve looked at is Alien Bee, another Novatron, etc.
Do any of you pro photographers have input on what your favorites are and why – also which brands you would stay away from and why.
Another thing I’ve been wondering is how much wattage to I really need – and is flash or continuous better.
I know some of this will be personal opinion but I’d like to hear from you.
Hey, it would be great, Mr. Fish, if you stuck to answering the question instead of insulting. I asked for opinions on lighting. I didn’t say I don’t have some opinions of my own about what is best.
Thanks, Fade – Mostly for outdoor I like natural lighting, so the lighting set up would be for indoor use. That info on Alien Bee wattage is good. I wasn’t aware of the diff. We were looking at 4 B800′s (one as backlight) Any other alien bee user input or other best brand suggestions?
Congrats on setting up a new studio.
As to Professional Lighting…I would suggest you mix continous and flash. But be careful about the the color emperatures… if you use flash, even the continous lights will have to be quartz-iodine type to match the daylight temperature of the flash.
Brand names are immaterial, as long as you have a satisfactory product.
If you plan to do full shots and fashion, you should have atleast two over-head banks, and moveable bank.
If just portraits, just one overhead in front, and one overhead as back 9kick light) wll do
Main light andfillers you can always use from the floor level and bounce them off from and umbrella or a white silk cloth
Whatever you do – be careful of color temps. never mix tungsten and blue light
