acrylic painting tips-horses?

i’m 13 and i’ve been drawing/painting sense pre-school. all i do is realism drawings (horses/fairies/flowers/still life) and i’ve done some diffrent medims when i took art lessons at some art studio. i’ve now gotten into acrylic painting. (i found some old paints i got for christmas last year). i’ve already done a painting of a light house for my uncle and now my aunt wants me to do her a speiclity painting of this mare with a foal with their heads hanging over the stall door (she gave a photo to go by). i’ve got most of it finished but i’m having a bit of trouble getting the paint to smooth out right. and i know horses are complex animals to even look at but sense i’ve been drawing horses for four years i have the right form, i just can’t seem to get the right shades!!!!

any tips to handle this acrylic paint????

Start light (thin paint) and paint in layers by tone …. your colors will blend if done correctly and your finish will be smooth or textured (your choice)…. practice on separate canvas first
