How many Monolight Flash Strobe Lights to get?
I have decided which Monolight Flash Strobe Light to finally purchase, but would like your opinions on how many I might need. I have a 20×20 room and another room that is a little bit bigger than that to do pictures in. Please let me know what all you professionals think. Its a 300WS Monlolight Flash Strobe Light. Three would be ideal, giving you main, fill, rim and options to light the background. However you will also want various light modifiers (soft boxes, snoots, barn doors etc) and reflectors. In practice, one extra light and a couple of large and small reflectors will serve you as well as three lights for most projects. A lot depends on what you are planning to photograph.
You will notice that open view “studios” – those walk-in baby and portrait cubicles in the walkways of shopping centers- generally manage perfectly well with two lights, one in a white umbrella and one softbox – and they have to manage without wall or ceilings.
