Can you use a translucent reflector as a “high key” backdrop (assuming you have bright window behind it)?
I’m trying to gather some basic lighting equipment to use at home. I’m not that familiar with some of the equipment simply because I don’t have experience with studio equipment (yes, I’ve read books).
I’m wondering if you can use a translucent reflector as a “high key” backdrop assuming that you have a brightly lit window behind it. I’m not sure how translucent these reflectors are and if you’d be able to see the window pane grid through the reflector. I’m just looking for an inexpensive way to get a soft white light behind my subject (newborn and preschooler) without spending a lot of money or acquiring a lot more “stuff”. I’m open to suggestions.
I forgot to mention that I’m looking at a collapsible translucent reflector. That way I can store it easily.
Use curtains or a white flat sheet… if you have a flash use or make yourself a diffuser. The flat plastic sheet cutting boards make excellent ones. Get one at the Dollar store. Do a Google search for strobist equipment…
