Is there an alternative flash unit option for camera with no hot shoe?
Hi
Am wanting to take some good photos of the family and will hire a studio with a white background and lighting (as I cannot afford a professional photographer). However my camera is only a very basic digital one with no hot shoe connection. Will this be a big problem? Do I need flash on all pictures? Is there some other kind of flash option? Can I have some kind of permanent light instead pointed at the subjects and what is this lighting called?
Any thoughts appreciated. I’m sure the studio will have all the lighting available, but I can’t afford to buy any equipment myself. I’ve thought about finding someone with an SLR, but I don’t know how to use them.
Thanks for your time.
High key lighting is what you are attempting and it is very important you understand your lighting in order to eliminate shadows. I have always used four lights to create this effect. Studio lighting, although slaved, often will not sync with a built in flash. Therefore, continuous lighting is your only alternative if you do not rent a DSLR or camera with a hot shoe.
